Frost Warning Tonight

FROST WARNING TONIGHT –
With the extra early Spring the last few weeks, maybe you got a jump start on your garden… Here’s a few tips to protect your plants from the cold the next few nights. Remember – a frost can happen at temperatures 44F and below
– Cover plants with blankets or sheets, not plastic, or larger pots turned over.
– Make sure plants are well watered, preferably early in the day of the night before (ex – freeze Mon night, water Monday by mid day). Hydrated plants give of a small amount of heat and help insulate the plant, where as plants that are drier get colder and are more likely to suffer.
– Bring anything inside that is tender.
– Cover anything that is flowering or heavily budded (showing any color).
– Do not remove the covers until the sun is shining on the plants and at least 30 degrees
– Plants that are damaged will turn black within a day or so. It is important that you cut these parts off once the cold weather has passed which can be a few days (don’t prune if there is cold temps again in the next 3-7 days forecast)
